When we refer to the Scottish style in decor, our imaginary unconsciously leads us to a profusion of textiles in tartan red squares, hunting scenes, painted wooden geese or wallpaper with a Highland aesthetic. However, although the plaid motifs continue to endure, today this style has become recycled towards a classicism timeless and relaxed, with small details that evoke a certain nostalgia for bygone eras combined with current elements to create a naturalistic and comforting atmosphere.
At the architectural level, the emphasis is on highlighting the quality of the typical materials from the Scottish universe such as stone, slate or wood, also enhancing the typical colors of the local landscape: In this old fishermen's house the original walls have been used to the maximum, parquet flooring the areas that were damaged and including plasterboard ceilings to lighten visually the roughness of the walls and the rustic finish of the furniture.
The decorative details opt for a codes update from the traditional tartan: The squares are combined with striped motifs, the classic wool prints are renewed in linen and cotton textiles and the furniture adopts a vintage French-style aesthetic creating less ornate environments.
The recurring paintings maintain their prominence but soften the tone: Moss greens, heather, muted grays, burnt oranges, lavenders… Like this bedroom where the navy blue bedding recalls the marine character of the Scottish town, or the elegant bathroom wallpaper in beige, taupe and brown ranges.
