Decoupage is a very old way of decorating furniture and other objects in a house with sheets of paper. Therefore, it is very economical as well as especially attractive. It just takes a little creativity to give a completely different image to the objects we have at home.
To make decoupage, you can use any type of paper, regardless of its texture or design. We just have to like it. The options are endless, from magazines to comics to printed or self-made drawings. One of the papers most used by experts in this technique are the colored napkins, because they are so thin that you hardly notice that they are glued.
To decorate a piece of furniture or any object with this technique, you should first paint it well with one or two coats of sealer or paint. Thus, the desired color will be seen through the unpapered areas.
If you want to make decoupage to renew the image of any of your furniture, and thus change the decoration of your house, it is recommended that you use a matte water-based varnish that is sold in craft stores, and that is known as "Napkin varnish".
As a protection layer, two coats of paint are applied to the already hooked paper. polyurethane cream varnish or clear acrylic varnish.
