Monstera Deliciosa is a very popular plant in interior decoration. Coming from Central America and some parts of South America, it draws attention both for its leafiness and for its large lobed leaves; responsible for the fact that in Spain it is popularly known as Costilla de Adán.

Leafy, eye-catching and easy-care; this is the Rib of Adam. Indoors we will not get it to bloom, but its heart-shaped leaves will dress any corner of our home by themselves, giving it a tropical air. Monstera Deliciosa is a magnificent houseplant. You can use it to dress up a corner of your home or cut some cuttings and place them in a vase to decorate a shelf or piece of furniture. If you place the plant next to a mirror, you will also achieve greater depth; a great idea to create a little green oasis.

Its decorative power is undeniable, but is its cultivation as simple as they say? We show you four factors that affect its growth:

  1. Substrate: Adam's Rib requires a well drained soil with at least ¼ of well homogeneous sand.
  2. Irrigation: Supports dry soil but not excess water. It is recommended, therefore, water when dry the earth, also using a liquid fertilizer for green plants every 15 days during the growing season. In addition, it will appreciate that its leaves are sprayed during the summer months with low-lime water.

  1. Light: Monstera withstands low light conditions, hence it is suitable for the home. However, its optimal development will require a good level of indirect sun exposure. Direct exposure to the sun will burn its leaves.
  2. Temperature: Between 20 and 25ºC develops optimally. It is a plant that withstands heat well, but not cold. A temperature below 15ºC and / or exposure to cold air currents could slow its development.
