The decorative vinyls They are a simple and economical resource with which decorate the walls of our home. They are also very easy to install and can be attached to any surface, as long as it is smooth. But is it just as easy to remove vinyl from the wall?
remove these liners of the walls It does not have to be complicated if the correct tools are used as we explain today. It is true that some adhesive remains may remain in the removal process for different reasons, but for that we also have solutions today. Take note!
What is a decorative vinyl?
Its placement, as we have already mentioned, is simple, fast and clean. You can install them yourself, not being necessary to hire a professional. And you can remove them yourself when you get tired of them or they are no longer in the best condition. But how?
How to remove a vinyl from the wall
Placing vinyl is easier than removing it. Although it cannot be classified as complicated either, it is important do it correctly to avoid glue residue on the wall or spoil the paint. Some thicker vinyl can be removed by lifting the corners and gently pulling them without exerting too much pressure, but you will usually have to use heat to do this. Heat that you can provide using a dryer or a heat gun as explained below.
with dryer
The best way to remove vinyl from the wall cleanly, preventing the glue from sticking to the wall, is to apply heat on it. It will be easier when the surface it adheres to is less porous, but with a hand dryer even in the most porous you can get good results.
Before you begin to remove the vinyl, remove furniture as needed to be able to work comfortably and have a ladder ready, if you need it to be able to reach the highest parts, the hand dryer with its corresponding extension cord to be able to plug it in and some gloves.
Start by applying heat with the dryer at one end of the vinyl, at a distance of at least 10 centimeters so as not to burn it. Use the medium temperature of the dryer; if it resists too much, you will always have time to try the highest temperature.
Heat for a few seconds on the same area, and when you notice that the vinyl gains flexibility, pull carefully so as not to break it until you feel some resistance. Then, repeat the process again in that new area, applying heat so that it loosens little by little. If the vinyl is big work from the ends to the center and from top to bottom to make it easier for you
with heat gun
The blow dryer method is the most popular for vinyl removal because not everyone has a heat gun at home. But if you have one, do not hesitate to use it as it allows you to keep a more constant rhythm and slightly speeds up the process. A process that will be very similar to the one already described with the dryer.
Start removing the vinyl from one end of the top. Work at a low temperature, always keeping a safety distance of at least 20 centimeters between the heat gun and the vinyl to prevent the plastic from melting. Heat for a few seconds and then pull using gloves or use a spatula to remove the vinyl. Be patient and don't try to run or it won't work.
Are there glue residues left?
Sometimes, when removing the vinyl from the wall, we find that adhesive residue remains in this. Unsightly residues that can make it difficult to paint the surface later. It is more common than you think and can occur both due to the correct application of the drying technique and due to a quality issue of the chosen product. Whatever the reason, the important thing is to know the tricks to get rid of these glue residues.
To remove them you will need a container with burning alcoholIn which you can thoroughly soak a sponge and a white cotton cloth (so that the dyes do not stain the wall) slightly moistened with water. Do you already have everything? The way to proceed will be very simple as you can see below.
Soak the sponge well in the alcohol and wring it out lightly so it doesn't drip. Gently pass it over the glue residue on the wall, pressing lightly but without rubbing, while letting it act for a few seconds.
Later, when you notice the glue starting to come off, pass the cotton cloth gently rubbing the wall to remove it. Do not exert too much pressure so that the paint is not affected. Once removed for another time the sponge with alcohol in a more superficial way, let the alcohol dry and check that there are no remains.
