It is always a pleasure to enjoy our gardens, patios and terraces At any time of year. However, it is winter when you have to plan and design the decoration to have everything ready when the good weather arrives. In other words: it is necessary to anticipate. Today we are going to see what are the best ways to design that decoration with the Grey the predominant color in our outdoor spaces.
Gray as a background color, the one that gives unity to the whole, will always give a better aesthetic result than white. Perhaps it is not so bright, although it is more suffered. And in any case, it provides more light than other shades such as black. Also, the combination of gray with the natural green of plants It has a great transforming capacity in our patios and gardens.
We focus on gray because it is a very common color. It's not hard to find outdoor furniture of this color. We must also mention the wrought iron furniture, if what we are looking for for our patio is a traditional and elegant style.
It is also not difficult to find textiles in gray tones. With them we can bring warmth to outdoor furniture. For example, some cushions designed with different patterns in all grays will bring freshness to the space. So will textiles in shades of blue, lime or fuchsia, to give a few examples.
Sets with tables and seats
A set formed by a low table surrounded by sofas, armchairs and low chairs (like the one in the image above) will help us create a meeting space, in which to share pleasant moments and relax with both family and friends.
In the set of the image above there is a series of elements that help to reinforce the aesthetic power of the gray color: a pavement and following the best practices, striped cushions of different colors, as well as a beautiful glass table set in a wicker structure. A simple set, but nice and comfortable.
In this second example, the one shown on these lines, the proposal is a wicker and wood coffee table with a single continuous sofa in the shape of an «L», made with the same materials. Here, straight and uniform lines are chosen, which contrast perfectly with the gray stone tiles on the floor, which form an irregular design, and with the back wall, also made of stone.
Some details of this piece of furniture stand out, such as the cups for drinks installed in the armrests or the successful black and white design of the cushions. And of course, with the final touch of flowers.
If we want to get the most out of the outdoor space, however, it may be more interesting to opt for a table and chairs where we can have breakfast or celebrate lunch and dinner. The idea above consists of a round high table and a set of armchairs, all in gray rattan.

If we want to go one step further, we can opt for even more comfortable loungers, practically outdoor beds with a solid rattan base, as in the image below. Looking for even more comfort? In that case, you have to look at a Balinese bed or some other similar design, like the one in the image below. In this specific example, it is a suggestive model with a round shape, a folding hood and four modules that can divide the base to become four individual seats.
Naturally, this type of solution is only suitable for terraces and more or less large gardens. There would be no point in trying to fit an especially bulky piece or set of outdoor furniture on a narrow balcony or small patio. For those cases there are other ideas:
On balconies and small spaces
All these options are designed to dress terraces and large outdoor spaces. But, what happens if we have a very small space? In those cases, a comfortable chair and a high round table can become the best proposal. It's a great way to take advantage of a small balcony.
The recipe in these less extensive settings is simple: low tables, not too large, some correctly distributed seats and some minimal decorative accessories, such as the always effective flower pots, hanging plants and some points of light in the form of lanterns or the like. With gray as a reference color, of course.
