Elastic upholstery from Innofa, a new concept of textiles

Innofa is a relatively young Dutch company specialized in textiles made of wool knit, a strong and resistant natural fiber that meets the necessary requirements for home and contract upholstery and offers a plus due to its elasticity: A minimum percentage of nylon and polyester allows embossed fabrics to be worked, giving them a truly inspiring three-dimensional and tactile appearance.

With a long history in the textile industry, Innofa fabrics can also be used with decorative and acoustic purposes in interior design projects. But where it has created a real revolution has been in the upholstery of furniture, mainly in seats, since the soft stretch of the fabric allows to emphasize the curves in a different way, thus even the most complex products due to their organic shapes are they can be coated easily and in record time.

The great Italian design companies have been pioneers in having their innovative fabrics for their collections, in fact Innofa has developed some exclusive upholstery for specific furniture such as those in the images: Patricia Urquiola's seats upholstered in Big Braid and Big Pois for Moroso, or the armchairs in Pied de Poule for Gervasoni. These fabrics not only give the pieces a textured finish full of nuances, they are also very warm to the touch and offer a pleasant feeling of comfort when sitting, enveloping you and adapting naturally to the posture. Definitely Kvadrat and other leading companies in the sector are going to have to put the batteries to overcome these new upholstery processes.

It is also a great option for headboards and racks of beds if one wants to combine comfort with an avant-garde style, as the company based in Latvia Nakts Mëbeles shows us, whose collection of bedrooms includes some designs upholstered in Innofa textiles; For this one in particular, we have chosen Stitch wool in anthracite and Knit Linen in pearl gray.

En Scandinavia have been able to echo the qualities of these elastic fabrics, and during the last fair in Stockholm there have already been several firms that have opted for Innofa products, such as Offecct, One Nordic or the Norwegian LK Hjelle, which has opted for the Uniform upholstery to cover the Kavai armchairs, whose backrest is folded in a hard felt sheet and where you can see how the fabric adapts perfectly to the contours like a second skin.

The fashion sector could not be less and has also taken note of the possibilities of these woven yarns; Dutchman Borre Akkersdijk presented his first collection at Paris Fashion Week in 2011 with these garments created with fabrics from Innofa: Futuristic aesthetic coats, dresses and capes with marked color gradations that did not leave those attending the parade indifferent.
