We were not very clear how to refer to these vertical and narrow holes made in the walls to allow the passage of light. We could refer to them as windows, but the truth is that they do not fulfill an indispensable requirement of these; do not allow ventilation.
The entrances of light that star our space today are tall and narrow. They have a great decorative power and allow the passage of light either from the outside to the interior of our home, or from one room to another. They are also discreet; no one at a distance will be able to see anything through them.
Can't deny the aesthetic value of this architectural element that also allows light to enter our home in a discreet way. Why discreetly? Because they do not allow you to see what is happening in the room from a distance. Its characteristics prevent it; they generally extend from floor to ceiling but are no more than 25-30 cm wide.
They are, therefore, a good alternative to let the daylight from the outside flood our home 24 hours a day without filters; curtains, translucent materials or mirrors. Due to their size, they will not steal as much useful wall as the windows, which will allow us to furnish the room more comfortably.
This type of window, tall and narrow, can also be installed between two rooms. In this way, we will get the light to pass from one to another. It is an especially interesting alternative when we have rooms without windows. We can use them between the bedroom and the bathroom or study, between the living room and the hall ... surely you will find more spaces where it would be useful or visually attractive.
