Postmodern architecture in Singapore

Universities and educational institutions they pose their buildings with a traditional architecture, without leaving much of pre-established margins, respecting a classical context. Building LaSalle SIA Art College Singapore is a work that breaks with the established and we are pleasantly surprised. A set of black granite and glass blocks, arranged around a central public space, with an effect close to the of construction and that directs our minds towards a kind of cubist maze.

Spatially, the LaSalle building is designed with an internal, organic and active facade, facing a solid and passive exterior. LaSalle SIA Art College is created with the fusion of six art schools, such as sculpture, multimedia and music, although each one of them maintaining its own identity.

The whole can remind us of postmodern creations (and why not the teacher Gaudí) transmitting a sensation of continuous movement; It is the work of the RSP architecture studio, one of the main cabinets of Singapore and the Southeast Asia.

Regarding architecture -which refers me to a huge glazed iceberg-, I would like to point out the respect for detail of the architecture studio RSP Architects Planners Engineers. Not only have they taken care of the exterior appearance creating a practically sculptural building, but the interiors have been subjected to an exhaustive analysis to enhance the luminosity and acoustics. In fact, the Lasalle College of the Arts auditorium has acoustic seats designed for excellent in-room listening. The company Figueras International Seating (http: www.figueras.com) has been selected to equip the room with its seats.

The auditorium was built as a theater with a capacity of 500 people. In addition to satisfying the aesthetic and ergonomic requirements of modern seats, the Figueras International Seating seats had to meet the acoustic, fire resistance and use of space requirements. For these reasons, the RSP team decided on the Flame model, by Figueras, designed by the Portuguese architect, Filipe Oliveira Dias in collaboration with the Figueras Design Center. On this occasion, with individual arms, finished in natural beech wood and upholstered in black.

It looks great! I'm Singaporean and I've been to Lasalle and it's sooo totally different from most schools. The angular + black steel and glass make me feels like I'm in some natural environment inspired>.
