Small dictionary of decoration styles (part II)

Continuing with the small dictionary that we started earlier, I wanted to tell you this time about three other basic styles of decoration and interior design that we must know in order to read, write or talk about decoration. Its about style Kitsch, the oriental style, and the Chinoiserie style or Chinese style.

4.- Style Kitsch:

This style is characterized by the use of a lot of color, sometimes very striking or opposed in the same decoration and by being especially ornate, although at the same time fun. It is the totally opposite of the minimalist style.

Within this trend you can combine all kinds of fabrics, materials and shapes, from plastics to leather, fabrics with hair, shiny or curious or extravagant furniture. In addition, curious decorative objects tend to predominate, which are called kitsch objects par excellence.

5.- Oriental style:

As its name suggests, this style is based on the use of decorative elements and motifs reminiscent of the East, based mainly on the decorative theories of this culture of ying-yang and feng-shui. Simplicity and balance predominate in the forms, combining materials and natural elements such as bamboo, wood and paper.

As for the furniture within this style we can see the use of futons, low tables and the scarcity of chairs. All this combined with dark woods and light tones on walls and fabrics.

- Within the oriental style we can differentiate the Chinoiserie style or Chinese style, consisting of a decoration with great Chinese influence in which wallpapers with typical patterns of this culture are used, generally very ornate and of great drawing quality. Combined with characteristic furniture of this country such as screens or carpets and especially porcelains. As for the color, reds are used combined with blacks and golds.
