When we want to install an awning on a window or on our terrace, sometimes we have the doubt of which will be the most suitable model for the place where we want to place it and what options exist on the market. For that reason I want to make a small list of the different types of awnings that are marketed and their main characteristics and advantages:
- Retractable or extendable awning: This type of awning is characterized by having metal arms that support it with an articulated system that allows adjusting the inclination and length of the awning in addition to allowing the awning to fold back by rolling up on itself when we do not need it to be extended, for example when is it raining or not sunny. This folding movement can be done manually, or through a mechanical system. This type of awning is the most suitable for large surfaces or areas where you want to be able to vary the inclination during the day.
- Flat or horizontal awning: It is a type of awning to be placed horizontally in pergolas, patios or roofs, and is anchored on its outer perimeter. It can be fixed or have a fabric collection system to let the sun pass on certain occasions.
- Soft top: It is one of the most used systems in small windows. They can be square or semi-curved, depending on the aesthetic and design chosen. They can also be fixed or mobile, allowing their collection by means of a very simple rope system.
- Curtain or vertical awnings: This type of awnings are characterized by being guided by a side rail and as their name suggests, they are placed vertically to the ground. They can also serve as sunscreens as room dividers and areas as a fabric screen.
