La Black Cedar House is a striking example of unconventional architecture in which one has been obtained fusion between contemporary and traditional patterns of Japanese architecture, in a neighborhood of Hiroshima where the classic sake distilleries continue to play a leading role.
The house is developed on 3 levels, with different spaces that give it a unique appearance. Viewed from the outside, the first one is a black box, the middle one a emptiness with original and thin steel pillars and the upper space a gabled parallelepiped.
On the ground floor we find a hall leading to the rest of the rooms, the master bedroom, the tatami room, the bathroom and a spiral staircase to the upper level. These rooms are divided by movable panels that when they are opened they turn them into a semi-exterior space.
In the singular mezzanine floor we find a spiral staircase and windows that offer a View of 360 degrees, acting as a well of natural light towards the upper and lower floors and providing an outdoor space.
At the top level, we find the more, dining room and living room, with two openings that contain the stairs. One of them leads to the first level and another to the mezzanine.
A careful project where each space is designed to have different types of visibility and dynamic and diverse social interactions within the home. Regarding the structure, in the first and second levels steel predominates to give it consistency, while traditional Japanese wood was chosen for the upper floor.
The house has been designed by naf architect & design.
