Build your own garden bench

DIY garden benches

Summer is a good time to tackle DIY projects like those today. Holidays allow us to have the free time necessary to enjoy this type of project and good weather guarantees us to be able to work outdoors. What better time to create our own garden bench?

There are many ways to build a garden bench; and all of them are more satisfactory for those of us who enjoy getting our hands dirty, than buying it. Depending on the tools we have and our skills we can play with concrete, wood and / or recycle chairs and beds to achieve a functional design.

Our goal is none other than to inspire you to create your own design. For this we show you four different proposals, made with different materials. The time required for each of them, the tools available at home, as well as your skill with them, are factors that will probably determine your choice.

  1. The first bank has been built from three identical chairs. In this DIY project, the chairs are detached from the old bench to build a new one with planks. The joint is reinforced with additional slats at the back of the backrest. Then it only remains to add some armrests, sand and paint.

  2. The concrete blocks they make a great base for a garden bench. We can make concrete blocks using a wooden box as a mold. Giving them an "L" shape is very useful to later give a better support to a treated solid wood plank.

  3. Make a bank using two planters like legs It has seemed to me the most original. The planters should have a suitable surface so that the bench is stable and strong. Ceramic ones are the best option in these cases.

  4. What if we build the bank from a old bed? The usual thing is to use the headboard as a backrest and the footboard in two, as sides. From there it will be necessary to build a drawer that serves as the base for our seat. You will need some squares to achieve angles of 90ºC, a saw and a drill to work comfortably.
