Keys to configure the interiors of built-in wardrobes

Cabinets

Built-in wardrobes allow us make the most of the space. By integrating as they are integrated in a certain space, they allow an optimal organization of it. However, there are many considerations that we must take into account if we want the design to be both attractive and functional.

The choice of doors will be key to achieving a certain aesthetic, but it will be the cabinet interior configuration which will determine its practicality. Distribute the interiors of the built-in wardrobes thinking about our needs will be the key to order. Accommodating all our clothes and being able to pick up and leave each garment and accessory in an agile way should be our goal.

How to organize the inside of a closet

A built-in wardrobe is organized into vertical sections or bodies. In no case should these bodies exceed one meter in width, since, in addition to hindering optimal organization of the clothes, a higher measure could cause the bars or shelves to bend with the weight.

Important measures to distribute the interiors of built-in wardrobes

When configuring the interiors of the interior cabinets we will also have to take into account,  different order items. And it is that depending on what type of clothes and accessories you want to keep in the closet, you will need to incorporate more or less bars to hang clothes, shelves or drawers. Three of the most common elements in a closet, but not the only ones that you can incorporate.

Element of order for the interiors of built-in wardrobes

Distribute the interiors of the built-in wardrobes in an optimal way is complicated if it is not analyzed beforehand what we want to keep in them. We can only do it well if we are aware of how much clothes we have, what type and how we like to store them if hanging or folded. So open your closet, grab a notebook, and take notes! to be able to choose the appropriate order elements.

  • Bars to hang clothes. It is customary to allocate two spaces to hanging clothes: a first, higher, for dresses and long outerwear; and another, shorter that allows to use the space immediately below or above for another item of order, for shirts, pants and jackets.
  • Shelves. In addition to bars, all the cabinets have shelves to place folded garments such as t-shirts or sweaters and accessories such as bags. Ideally, these shelves can be adjusted in height, to adapt to future changes, and that they do not have a width greater than 30 centimeters. A shelf with more depth will allow you to organize a greater number of garments but not all of them will be in view, nor will it be so easy for you to maintain order on them, unless you bet on removable shelves.
  • Drawers. The closed drawers are very practical for organizing underwear and accessories. Adding dividers or organizers will also help nothing to move from its place when you open and close the drawer, so that everything remains perfectly organized.
  • Zapatero. You can place the shoes on shelves, but if your shoe collection is important, the ideal is to add a module for shoes. Slightly inclined and removable shelves that allow you not only to see all your shoes but to access them comfortably, something especially important if you decide to place it at the bottom of the built-in closet.
  • Upper area / trunk. If the built-in wardrobe goes from a dream to the ceiling, the usual thing is to have an area known as the trunk at the top, made up of as many compartments as there are bodies. These can be used to store suitcases, bedding, or other bulky items. But they can also be used to organize in baskets - so that it is more convenient for you to access it without cluttering everything - clothes from another season or accessories such as bags.

Different elements to dress the interiors of built-in wardrobes

Design and lighting

Beyond the distribution of the elements of order, the interiors of the built-in wardrobes will improve with a good design and good lighting. Choose all light wood to give a fresher touch to the wardrobe and darker if you are looking for a more elegant and sophisticated version. You can too play with textures and colors, betting on fabric imitation melanins or papers to make the interior more striking.

Cabinet design and lighting

More important than these design details is good lighting that allows you to see all your clothes without having to turn on the light in the room. The illuminated bars are a great alternative to illuminate the closet in a simple way. Another solution is to install motion sensor light points that, placed on the top or on the sides of the cabinet, turn on when the cabinet is opened.

There are many things that must be taken into account to achieve an optimal organization of the interior of built-in wardrobes, but it is worth the time. Whether your cabinets are blank or if their distribution is not to your liking, investing is always wise. It is the best way to maximize space and contribute to the order of a certain room.
